A retirement community doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting old, or that you have to slow down. Maybe you need different accommodations now than you used to, or a little more care, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still stay active. That’s the philosophy behind Chateau La Jolla. Here’s what you need to know about the facility — the Who, What, Where, When, and Why.

Who?

Chateau La Jolla is a family-owned senior living facility, for retirement-age residents who want their basic needs met, while still staying active and independent as much as they can. Their “Age in Place” policy seeks to accommodate residents as much as possible where they are, without requiring them to move to a higher level of care.

Most of Chateau La Jolla’s residents are 55 and older. However, they do take a few younger residents as well, under certain circumstances. Talk to them and see what they can arrange for you.

What?

Chateau La Jolla is a luxury senior living facility, consisting of three buildings that all overlook the ocean. They provide home care and home health care as needed, as well as a variety of other amenities, such as housekeeping, concierge service, and personal shopping. Facilities include a personal gym and therapy pool, patio and lounge areas, a movie theater, three libraries, and more.

Perhaps one of the best amenities, though, is the dining. Head chef Damaso Lee serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with an a la carte room service menu, Champagne Sunday Brunch, and more — all delicious and healthy, made with fresh, local ingredients. Formerly the executive chef at the famous Trattoria Acqua, Damaso Lee now brings his culinary expertise to the residents of Chateau La Jolla.

Where?

As its name implies, Chateau La Jolla is located in La Jolla, California, a small village in San Diego. Surrounded on three sides by beaches and ocean views, the facility is just half a block from the ocean and three blocks from downtown La Jolla. It’s also not far from the downtown San Diego area.

When?

You can move in whenever you’re ready, and stay as long as you need to. If you need home care or other assistance in order to function and stay independent, Chateau La Jolla can provide that. However, if you need care on only a temporary basis, they can provide that too! Say you have a serious injury that affects your mobility. Your situation isn’t permanent, but recovery will take time. In the meantime, your current living quarters aren’t suited to accommodating your needs. You can take a year-long lease on one of their apartments and get the care you need, while you need it. Recover faster than you expected and want to leave before the lease is up? That’s fine too! But don’t be surprised if you end up wanting to stay at Chateau La Jolla as long as you can.

Why?

Because even if you can’t do everything for yourself that you used to, that doesn’t mean you’re too old to stay active, to keep creating and innovating and trying new things. You’ve worked hard your whole life, and now it would be nice not to have to worry about everything quite so much as you always have. That’s what Chateau La Jolla provides. It makes sure all of your needs are taken care of, so that you’re free to live your life the way you want to.
